Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that the team has been listening to “a lot of feedback” from fans, and that the final entry in the popular trilogy will be better because of it. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was considered one of the best games of 2024, but some fans complained about parts of its design, and hopefully, this feedback will help Square Enix make an even better game in the future.
Released in 1997, Final Fantasy 7 is often considered one of the best Japanese RPGs of the 90s due to its stellar storytelling and iconic moments and characters. Fans were surprised when Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced, and the second entry in the trilogy also proved to be a huge success. However, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth holds an incredible average critic score of 92 on OpenCritic, some long-time fans of the franchise have criticized the game for its oversized open world, which detracts from the main experience.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Be a 'Better Experience' Due to Feedback, Director Says
In a recent interview with ntower, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed fan feedback. According to him, feedback is very important to the team, and they have received a ton of it following Rebirth‘s release. He also quoted producer Yoshinori Kitase, who claimed that doing a trilogy offers an advantage because the developers can always reflect on feedback for later entries. However, the developers want to avoid “adapting and changing the core experience” due to player comments, as the core creative vision that drives the project has to come from the studio, not the players. Details that may change, however, are related to difficulty, the minigames in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and other small details, which are still very important.
Luckily, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 seems to be shaping up well. In another recent interview, Hamaguchi revealed that the keyword used to shape the gameplay and story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has already been decided. In other interviews, developers have also indicated that development is going smoothly.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake already has an internal release date at Square Enix, but unfortunately, the company has not yet divulged it. Considering how smoothly the development seems to be going, however, a 2027 release would not be unexpected, as a lot of the content is already in a playable state, and the art direction is firmly set in place, according to the developers.
